Our approach

People first. A shared plan. A long-term view.

Every business is different. So is every owner, every leadership team, and every decision about what comes next.

We begin by understanding the people behind the business, what they have built, and what they want to achieve. From there, we work towards a partnership shaped by shared ambition, clear responsibilities, and a long-term commitment.

Our approach is deliberate. We take the time to understand before deciding, and we remain involved after investing.

How we approach an investment

Four principles that guide every partnership

Start with the people

Before we examine a business in detail, we want to understand the people leading it.

Their judgement, ambitions, and willingness to work together matter as much as the opportunities ahead. We look for leadership teams we respect and relationships built on openness.

Structure around the plan

The investment should serve the business, not the other way around.

We work with owners and management to establish what the next chapter requires, then consider the ownership structure, capital, and responsibilities needed to support it.

Share the outcome

A lasting partnership requires aligned interests.

We seek structures in which owners, management, and investors have a meaningful stake in the future. Success should be something we build together.

Stay close

Our involvement does not end when the investment is made.

We remain available to management, contribute where our experience is useful, and support important decisions without taking over the day-to-day running of the business.

From first conversation to long-term partner

A considered process, without unnecessary complexity

Good partnerships rarely begin with a transaction. They begin with a conversation. We follow a clear process, but adapt its pace and detail to the circumstances of each business.

  1. 01

    First conversation

We listen to what has brought you to this point, what matters to you, and what you are considering.

There is no expectation of a transaction. The first step is simply to understand whether a conversation is worth continuing.

  2. 02

    Getting to know each other

We spend time with the owners and leadership team to understand the business, its culture, its strengths, and its challenges.

This is a two-way process. You should have the opportunity to understand us just as well.

  3. 03

    Agreeing the direction

If there is a basis for partnership, we work together to define the ambition, priorities, ownership structure, and respective roles.

We believe the important questions should be addressed before commitments are made.

  4. 04

    Making the investment

Once we share a clear understanding of the opportunity and the terms, we complete the necessary financial, legal, and operational work.

Our aim is a disciplined and transparent process, with no unnecessary surprises.

  5. 05

    Building together

The investment marks the beginning of the partnership.

We work alongside management on the priorities we have agreed, review progress, and adapt as the business develops.

Our horizon extends beyond the transaction.

What we look at

Understanding the whole business

Financial performance matters. But numbers alone rarely explain why a business succeeds or what it could become. We consider four connected dimensions.

  • The leadership team

The people responsible for the business, their experience, their judgement, and their ambitions for the future.

  • The direction

Where the business can go, what opportunities exist, and what it will take to realise them.

  • The business model

How the business creates value, serves its customers, and maintains its position in the market.

  • The financial foundations

The quality of earnings, cash generation, capital requirements, and resilience of the business.

We consider these elements together. A compelling financial profile cannot substitute for a partnership that does not work.

What you can expect from us

Clarity from the beginning

An investment process should not leave owners or management guessing about where they stand. We aim to make every conversation straightforward, respectful, and useful.

Direct conversations

You speak with the people responsible for evaluating the opportunity and making decisions.

Discretion

We treat sensitive information and early conversations with care and confidentiality.

Clear expectations

We explain our thinking, discuss important terms openly, and make responsibilities clear before entering a partnership.

Room to decide

A partnership must be right for everyone involved. We respect the time and consideration such a decision requires.

A long-term view
The investment is a starting point, not a destination. We measure a partnership by what the business becomes over time, the strength of its leadership, and the value created together.
